Our country's 286 million passenger vehicles are a major contributor to climate pollution. This year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has the opportunity to propose new federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for vehicles sold in 2027 and beyond.
Since they were established by Congress in 1975, these fuel economy standards have saved more than two trillion gallons of gasoline. Even as we move to electric vehicles, millions more gasoline-powered vehicles will be sold in the coming decade. These gasoline vehicles must be as efficient as possible. And because 70% of car sales are used car sales, and purchasers of used cars often spend a higher share of their total income on gasoline and transportation, having efficient options becomes even more important for low and moderate income drivers.
Please submit your comment to NHTSA to support strong fuel economy standards today!
